Telemedicine (computer video appointment) and telephone appointments
We are happy to announce that we are now able to provide telephone appointments if you wish to discuss aspects of your pain treatment plan, as well as telemedicine consultations (computer to computer with video link up). Clearly there are limitations to this mode of interaction. Most of our visits require a physical examination and/or procedures such as injections. If it is determined that you require a physical exam you will still need to be assessed in person. You should also understand that virtual care is not a substitute for attending the Emergency Department if urgent care is needed.
Should you wish to have a phone call appointment or a telemedicine appointment, please call our office at 778-406-0077 to arrange a suitable time for this. |
The telemedicine platform is www.doxy.me and these will be pre-arranged appointments only. Once we have agreed on a mutually convenient time, you will be sent a link via e-mail to go to a specific website and you will be able to enter the virtual waiting room just before your appointment. In these days of the Covid-19 virus, these types of appointments may be helpful in answering some of your questions, or even organising an initial consultation, without access to examination or procedures of course.
Just like online shopping or email, Virtual Care has some inherent privacy and security risks that your health information may be intercepted or unintentionally disclosed. We want to make sure you understand this before we proceed. In order to improve privacy and confidentiality, you should also take steps to participate in this virtual care encounter in a private setting and should not use an employer’s or someone else’s computer/device as they may be able to access your information. Any email address you provide us needs to be a personal one, not one linked to an employer or institution such as a school or university.
You may already be familiar with the use of Skype, Facetime, Zoom, or Whatsapp for video chats or conferencing. We do not recommend Skype, Whatsapp, or Facetime for confidential online sessions. Zoom has also recently had some security issues though it is an excellent platform. We use a platform, https://doxy.me, that is simple to use, more secure, and meets the requirements for health privacy rules.
Dr. David Bowler has found that clinical hypnosis is just as effective online as it is in the office.
